How Can You Stay Legal with Australia’s E-Bike Laws? Discover the Vamos Amigo 2024 Solution

Understanding e-bike regulations in Australia can be tricky, especially with different laws across states. However, at Vamos Bikes, we’ve created a solution to ensure that everyone can ride our new Amigo 2024 model legally, no matter where they are in Australia.

E-Bike Laws: What You Need to Know

E-bike laws in Australia vary depending on the state you're in:

  • In NSW, the permissible level of continuous running power was increased from 250 watts to 500 watts - which you can read more about here
  • In the other states, e-bikes are still limited to 250 watts for public road use.

Additionally, across all of Australia, e-bikes are only allowed to use a throttle that assists up to 6 km/h on public roads. The motor can provide assistance up to 25 km/h, after which it must stop assisting. Riding with a throttle that exceeds these limits on public roads may result in penalties, as authorities in NSW and other states have begun pulling over non-compliant e-bikes.

State-Specific Regulations

E-bike regulations can vary significantly by state, so it's important to stay informed. Here are the relevant links to check the laws in your area:

We strongly encourage all our customers to check their local state laws, as these regulations are updated regularly to reflect changes in road safety and e-bike technology.

The Vamos Amigo 2024: A Legal and Flexible Solution

At Vamos Bikes, we’ve designed the Amigo 2024 to comply with e-bike regulations across all Australian states, while still offering flexibility for riders.

When you first turn on the Amigo 2024, it’s set to 250 watts straight out of the box, ensuring it’s legal to ride in every state.

However, if you’re in NSW, where the recent legislation allows e-bikes with 500 watts, you can easily unlock this feature:

  1. Unlocking 500 watts: Simply press the middle and bottom buttons on the control panel to switch the motor to 500 watts if you're riding in NSW or another area where it's permitted.
  2. Throttle Control: By default, the throttle is limited to 6 km/h, keeping it compliant with Australian public road laws.
  3. Off-Road Mode: For off-road adventures, press a special button to unlock the throttle, allowing you to exceed the 6 km/h limit. You can also adjust the speed settings for faster riding off-road.

This smart design ensures that you can ride the Vamos Amigo 2024 confidently, knowing you're compliant with road laws, while also enjoying the flexibility of unlocking extra power when riding off-road.

Ride Legally and Enjoy Flexibility

No matter where you live in Australia, the Vamos Amigo 2024 offers the best of both worlds - compliance and freedom. On public roads, the bike is locked to 25 km/h and set to 250 watts (or 500 watts in NSW, thanks to recent changes), ensuring you're riding legally. Off-road, you can unlock more power and speed for an exciting ride.

With the Vamos Amigo 2024, you can ride confidently and legally, knowing you’re adhering to the latest e-bike regulations. Stay informed, check your state’s laws, and enjoy the freedom that comes with flexible, compliant riding.
